Changing the World
One Classroom at a Time
Hola, I’m Coral Zayas
I’m the Author of Teaching K-5 Science: Encouraging Exploration, Inquiry and Problem Solving.
Here’s a quick behind the scenes look into my professional journey and life.
Behind The Scenes
-
I wrote the book I wish I had when I started teaching elementary science. I spent the first 6 years of my teaching career with no access to instructional coaches. So I did most of my learning through social media and outside of the district PD that met my needs.
I believe every teacher should have access to mentors and coaches from the moment they walk into our profession.
I wrote this to support educators in districts that have these supports, but more specifically for the educators that do not have access to the supports they need and deserve. This isn’t your typical one subject book, I blend my knowledge of teaching multiple grades and multiple subjects to make sure educators can provide a solid foundation for science instruction, but also see the connections between subjects and standards and support deeper student learning across the board.
There is strong emphasis on supporting multilingual students and neurodiverse students and looking at instruction from a global perspective to truly prepare students for the interdisciplinary world we live in. To support both educators and students to be the problem solvers our world needs.
